what i’ve read so far this year

Reading in 2022

Reading has definitely changed for me once I’ve started blogging about it. I am so happy that I started doing it because I feel like I’m interacting more with my pleasure reads than I ever have before.

Yes, I still use reading for an escape from this world at times. But now I’m thinking so much more deeply about these books than I was before blogging. In undergrad and grad school, I was doing that but with someone else deciding what I was reading. (I know, I’m still talking about this, it’s probably getting on your nerves by now.)

I absolutely love what I’m doing with reading now. I can pick what I want to read. I can abandon books. I can read one or several books at one time. It seems that when I’m in charge of my reading, that’s my optimal learning experience. Which might not be that way for everyone, I understand.

What I’ve read at this point in 2022

  • January
    • Legendary Authors and the Clothes They Wore by Terry Newman
    • Cocktails for Three by Madeleine Wickham
    • Rose Madder by Stephen King (started 12/30/2021)
    • The End of Everything (Astrologically Speaking) by Katie Mack (started in December 2021)
    • The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta
    • The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
    • The House Next Door by Darcy Coates
    • Italian for Beginners by Kristin Harmel
    • Yellow Rain by Mai Der Vang
    • The Library of the Unwritten by AJ Hackwith
  • February
    • Identity by Milan Kundera
    • Call Us What We Carry by Amanda Gorman
    • Drown by Junot Diaz
    • Spark of Passion by Lexy Timms
    • Winter in Sokcho by Elisa Shua Dusapin
    • Contemporary African Art by Sidney Littlefield Kasfir
    • Filthy Animals by Brandon Taylor
    • Maps & Transcripts of the Ordinary World by Kathryn Cowles
    • A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
    • Alice’s Adventures Under Ground by Lewis Carroll
  • March
    • The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave
    • Dracula by Bram Stoker
    • White Trash Warlock by David R. Slayton
    • Do Cool Shit by Miki Agrawal
  • April
    • Bag of Bones by Stephen King
    • Complete Guide to Winter Camping by Kevin Callan

Blogging has somewhat negatively affected my reading. It’s clear I read more books in January and February than in March and thus far in April. And I’ve gotten so anxious about needing to post to keep my views up and blah blah while forgetting that I’ve started this just for fun! What am I getting anxious about?? I think I just need to use that energy to instead work, read, and be productive instead of worrying about my reach.

My favorite books so far in 2022

To be more positive in this post and since I have yet to post any reviews on here, let’s just look at the books I’m in love with that I’ve read so far this year.

And these favorites are at this time. My favorite of anything changes, so when I choose my favorites at the end of the year, it’ll be interesting to me to see if I pick these as favorites again.

  • Rose Madder by Stephen King
  • Yellow Rain by Mai Der Vang
  • The Library of the Unwritten by AJ Hackwith
  • Filthy Animals by Brandon Taylor
  • White Trash Warlock by David R. Slayton
  • Bag of Bones by Stephen King

*a big thank you to my local library for providing most of these books to me. I appreciate them so much.
