Fire & Blood by George RR Martin
A Targaryen History #1

In honor of starting House of the Dragon today and going back to Westeros (and not having any other reviews ready), I thought this would be great to post. Also, this is long due to be posted since I finished Fire & Blood in April.
At first, this seemed boring to me. I bought it upon sight in the beginning of 2020 and tried reading it. Then, I found it dull.
Beginning it again in January of this year, I made a reading plan for myself to finish it within the year while also hopefully not getting bored of it. I planned on reading an average of 5 pages a day. I found that this kind of plan helped me finish what would’ve been a seemingly boring book and allowed me to enjoy the stories little by little. Some days I had to push myself to read my “assigned” 5 pages, while others I was enticed enough to read 10+ pages or even an entire chapter.
I am so glad that I had created this plan for myself so that I could enjoy Martin’s work in a different way than I have before, while also still enjoying his work as I wait (getting impatient now) for Winds of Winter. While a long journey to get through the first 150 years of the Targaryens, it’s a fun book to go through when you’re craving some Westeros drama.
I’ll definitely be using this plan again for future reads that I won’t want to take out of the house, such as The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Read on and don’t let those thick books intimidate you.
