📙Scum by Isaac Bashevis Singer 📙
Max travels from Argentina to Poland in hopes of changing his life after his son dies and his wife’s depression becomes too much for him to handle.

“Either the dead live, or the living are dead.”
These notes that I took about halfway through sum up pretty much how I felt overall – “I’m bored by this book but also want to keep reading. Kind of so I can just finish it since I bought it and also because I’m mildly intrigued. And it’s short enough that I’m just going to finish it.”

This book was mostly confusing to me (somewhat boring) and honestly I don’t believe I wouldn’t have been able to focus on it if I had been working and not on vacation. Scum did still make me think, with that one quote above and the two highlighted pages. But I still do appreciate all of the older books that I am able to buy and read.
I don’t remember much of what i was thinking when I was reading this book, aside from these two pages that were obviously very important to me at the time. The only thing I truly remember from the below page is that it’s very good thinking, very interesting to go over.

And the only thing I remember from the above page was that this was the first (and only) page that i didn’t think Tsirele was a dumb bitch…aside from her believing that socialism and how she wanted to raise her children aligned. Also, that a revolution would bring an end to war. It’s natural to fight, and with the technology that’s available, I think it’s foolish to think world peace is a future humans should strive towards.
