Reading and life musings in the morning

I tried reading Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica, but the story just got to me. I really was looking forward to getting into another one of her crazy stories – Kubica just really pulls me in. Her storytelling is just so good. Maybe I’ll check out another one of hers and save Pretty Baby for another time. Normally when I abandon books I won’t go back to them (or at least, for the past few years since I started tracking my reading), but I’m not totally abandoning this one – just putting it aside for now.
Now I’m back on In the Woods by Tana French, a slower read for me that I’ve been randomly dipping into since August or September. But I’m still enjoying it nonetheless.
And for some reason, there’s a quote from Filthy Animals by Brandon Taylor that’s been stuck in my head all morning. Beautiful book of short stories; ever since reading Real Life last year, Brandon Taylor has become a new favorite author of mine. And I don’t normally go for newly published books or track when books are going to be published (it seems like quite the thing to keep track of on bookstagram), but when I saw Taylor has a new book coming out I just got so excited.
Telling someone where to start with an author is kind of a slippery slope to fascism.
Brandon Taylor, Filthy Animals
Just for fun, these are the books I’m looking forward to being published
- Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo
- The Late Americans by Brandon Taylor
- Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin
