What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher Review

Alex Easton is a retired soldier of 15 years who travels to his childhood friend’s home in response to her letter that she’s dying. Inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s The Fall of the House of the Usher, what Alex finds on the Usher property is much more than Madeline dying.
What Moves the Dead was mostly creepy to me; I didn’t find that I was terrified by it but still scary in the creepy sense and enjoyable nonetheless. I definitely find myself wanting to try some of Poe’s work from Kingfisher’s inspiration.
This was a good book to get in for the end of September in 1 day. Not as easily read for me as I guess some others, because I got the title from a reel of “spooky books you can read in one sitting.” This is something I find strange when I see other readers say they read something in one sitting. Does that mean they literally sat for an hour and read it? Was it read throughout the day? I’m sure it’s different for every reader, so the answer to that really depends on the person recommending it. This is my own thing coming from a “one sitting” recommendation, but I sometimes feel somewhat inadequate when I can’t literally read something in one sitting when I have all the time in the world but I don’t finish it in an hour or so. But *sigh* I digress, we all have our own reading paces.
Read on and enjoy those spooky season reads.
