“I was young enough to think that the opinions of one boy didn’t matter against a sea of opposition.”

❗️Spoilers below

A cute sequel to Sea Witch, this definitely had a lot more action from the jump than Sea Witch. But surprisingly, I thought that I had enjoyed its predecessor more. I couldn’t have imagined a different ending, but I felt that it took a lot longer than necessary to get to the Sea King’s demise.

I kind of wanted Henning to write what would happen if a war did happen; if the Sea King got all of his citizens to start a war on land, what would that have looked like? Would he have taken Evie’s power to give everyone the ability to go above the water (in addition to his soldiers)? Would he have taken Evie’s magic or forced her to use it?

War doesn’t know its bounds – neutrality isn’t a shield. It’s simply a statement that can be easy to ignore.

But I’m also curious in general, what is Runa’s life going to look like on land? Maybe there will be a third book that will focus on Runa’s landlocked life and Evie’s reign as queen.

Read on.
