sunday musings 1.15.22

I’ve been thinking of re-organizing my books for the past few months; I’ve gone back and forth on keeping my books exactly where they are and reorganizing them completely.

As I was dusting today, I first looked at the few books I brought here from my parents’ house. When I was in high school, I would read the same books over again and again, with the occasional library books mixed in there I’m sure (because a tiger doesn’t change its stripes) – with a small bookshelf, I didn’t have much room for a ton of books. And I absolutely loved reading. It was so nice to see my old favorites – especially what I remember being my favorite book in high school, Incantation by Alice Hoffman. I’m planning on rereading all of these books, but I’m definitely rereading that old favorite soon.

Anyway, going against all intuition to not reorganize, I decided as I was dusting my third and largest bookshelf to say fuck it and move everything around.

This resulted in me becoming excited to read so many of my books that I haven’t even touched or looked at in so long. Honestly, I’m so happy that I’m doing a library ban for myself because I love my collection and want to explore all of these books.

The reorganization of my books went like this (if you’re interested to read further):

  • My very first bookshelf
    • First shelf – stayed as all of my psychology books
    • Second shelf – all Stephen King and most of my horror
  • My second bookshelf that my fiance made for me
    • All nonfiction (with a couple extra horror and fantasy books that didn’t want to fit anywhere else)
  • My biggest bookshelf
  • This took a little extra thinking to organize, and was partially why I hesitated to actually do this today.
    • The very bottom shelf – fantasy – includes Harry Potter and A Song of Ice and Fire
    • Second shelf – my owned favorites and books that I was the most excited about reading when moving things around today.
    • Third shelf – other fiction
    • Fourth shelf – the books I’ve gotten for free so I can eventually re-donate them
    • Fifth and final shelf – my classics, [mostly] everything originally published during or before the 20th century

So many books, so I must be off to read them.

Read on.
