I was craving something specific. I wanted a cozy book about books or a bookshop, not with fantasy or any magical realism. So I made my first library trip to get books for myself last week.

I love Japanese writing, so something similar to Before the Coffee Gets Cold or Sweet Bean Paste would have been perfect. I’ve read too much fantasy in the past month, I need a little change of pace to satisfy my mom brain and calm the noise.
But I also didn’t want anything published in the past 5 or 10 years. Because at this point, contemporary writing gives me a headache with an overwhelming amount of liberal ideology.
So I grabbed
๐The Housekeeper and The Professor by Yoko Ogawa – to try to satisfy my need for some slow and heartfelt Japanese writing.
๐If You Could See Me Now by Cecelia Ahern – for something a little older and I haven’t read her since high school so should be interesting with about 15 more years of life experience on my end.
๐That Old Country Music by Kevin Barry (a collectionof stories, published in 2020) – for my assumptions about it from the title and cover
๐And a couple newer things that caught my eye (I went to the library for nothing new and left with more things published in this decade. My eyes were bigger than my stomach.)
๐The Words Between Us by Erin Bartels
๐The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
๐The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst
